Featured Friday Ride:
Warm up ride -- FM Hill
: Leaves the John Wesley Powell Museum and is out and back approximately 2 hours total,
but you can ride all or part of it. This is fairly flat ride with some gentle climbs on asphalt and graveled
roads. As we pull away from town to the South West we pick up a beautiful view of the Swell. It is not a
real physical or technical ride but will loosen the legs up. We will stop on the way back to town and have a
steep hill climb, for those interested. The hill climb has always been interesting when we have held it in
past years.
Featured Saturday Rides:
Beginner
--
Nefertiti's
:
5 to 17 Miles Out & Back - Distance to the trailhead is 10 miles. Begin at the famous Swasey's Beach and follow
the Green River until you reach the Indian Rock Art Panel at
Nefertiti’s
. Visit an old homestead along the way. Ride all or any part of this ride you would like. It has a few climbs in
it, but nothing too serious. The Green River is never too far away from you at any time during this
ride.
Intermediate -- Planet Vulcan (aka Three Fingers) :
17 Miles Out & Back - Distance to the trailhead is 15 miles. This is 17 miles of desert road. This ride is not
a technical ride. If you classify yourself as a "Treky" you will want
to do this ride and visit an area where part of the 2009 Star
Trek movie was filmed. Imagine yourself on the Planet Vulcan. In addition to this you will visit one
of the most pristine
Petro glyph
sites found in the Swell.
Intermediate -- Jackass Benches/Black Dragon
: 26 miles, semi-technical. Includes a
trip down Black Dragon Canyon. Visit Indian writings and hear the story of Sids Leap. This is a shuttled ride. You
will be picked up at the bottom of Black Dragon, 14 miles west of Green River.
Intermediate -- Wikiup Loop : 17 miles, 30 miles to the trail head. This ride combines
two of our most popular rides around the wikiup. wickiup west follows a gradual downhill, narrow double-track
trail with spectacular views. the ride continues back to the trailhead on wikiup east, more double-track with
some gradual climbing. There are a couple of rocky
places.
Advanced -- Cliff Dwellers
: 34 miles to the trail
head. This Ride is 15 miles, will take approx. 3 to 4 hours to complete. Five miles are on dirt
road. Ten miles are single track. It has technical sections in it and some soft spots. It is the
most physical ride of the festival and should not be attempted if you do not have the skills and conditioning
to complete it.
Featured Sunday Ride:
Intermediate --
Black Dragon : 17 miles primarily a
downhill ride, starting with double track progressing into almost single track. Visit the famous Black Dragon rock
art panel. This is one fast and fun ride. It is a good end to three days of riding. It is a shuttled ride.
Distance to shuttle 15 miles and shuttled 15 miles to the trail head. There are those of us who believe that this
is one of the most fun rides in the state.
